Ham Radio 60 Years Ago
Presented by Jim Brown, W5ZIT
What was ham radio like 60 years ago when W5ZIT got his novice license and started hamming it up? Jim will talk about the radios, the modes, and operating from the early 1950’s.
Jim was licensed in 1953 as a Novice while in high school, and this led to a degree in Electrical Engineering and a career in radio communications.
Present retirement activities include operating the sound card digital modes on HF and VHF, and occasional CW operation using various restored antique Vibroplex keys.
Jim is normally a wintertime visitor to the area and lives full time in an RV. A normal summer has Jim in Ruidoso NM in the mountains where he builds/maintains the club repeaters and volunteers with the ARES/RACES group in Lincoln County.
